What a wondeful world

As the video mentioned, what a wonderful world!
For me, I would think that it would be such a pity if we were to give up so easily. It is a wonderful world for us to live in. Shouldn't we make the best out of it?
Push ourselves to our limit. Be optimistic, and look at the brighter side of life!
Resilience is the the capability of a strained body to recover its size and shape after deformation caused especially by compressive stress . Resilience is an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change.
So, why not practice resilience today?

Life without limbs

“Love God in front of people. Love people in front of God.” That seemed a fitting statement for our “Get Inspired” section. The “fruit” of who we really are is seen in our actions. And our actions are born out of what resides in our hearts. How do we get to a place where we can both love God and then love people the way that God would have us do? Many times, when Nick Vujicic is on the road in the United States or in one of the many countries he has visited, he speaks to people who are really hurting and broken due to any number of circumstances. When the circumstances become overwhelming, people often turn to things other than God to fulfill their needs, ultimately ending up in a place that doesn’t bring the true and lasting satisfaction they’re seeking. He cannot help but be an icon of inspiration because he’s so beautifully allowed God to take his life and use it to the fullest. But, even he would say to you, in order for that precious “seed” that God has planted in you to grow, it needs to be watered, so that spiritual “fruit” may be seen on the branches of your life.

This video shows more about how these people never gave up on their dreams of becoming an athelete. Even though they might have no arms, limbs or whatsoever, they still practice resilience. In the end, they have succeeded in becoming one.

The little mermaid

This girl has never given up even though she was born with Mermaid syndrome. However, she does not give up and even plays football and attends dance classes. This is an act of resilience.

The artist with no eyes

This artist have showed resilience as he continued with his painting even though he is blind.

The boy who will never grow

Jack seems like any other 8 year-old boy.
He goes to school, he loves sport, and his favourite thing is swimming.

The problem is that Jack has Morquiose, a rare genetic condition that means his skeleton will never grow. Now at the age of 8 Jack is the size of a 4 year-old and has almost reached the full height he'll grow.

It's good to know that Jack has resilience, and never gave up even though people bullied him. I think that's really cool, as he's ONLY 8 YEARS OLD.

This film follows the life of Jack and his family as they face the uncertain future of life with this rare disease.

The light bulb

Thomas edison. A famous person. The guy who invented the light bulb.

"I have not failed 700. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 700 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work."
Thomas Edison.

I mean, in the olden days, I'm sure Thomas had it tough.

People must have mocked him for being so, what they call "silly".

I myself have experienced failure, & it isn't so pleasant.

Thomas Edison is indeed, truly, one-of-a-kind.

Resilience motivates me to look for opportunities to learn, rather than be defeated by what I do not understand, as well as encourages me to keep moving, when giving up may seem to be a viable option.

Ice Princess

ICE PRINCESS IS A MUST-WATCH SHOW!

This story basically talks about how a high-school bookworm transforms into a swan.

Brainy Casey Carlyle has never quite fit in.

Caught between her fantasy of becoming a championship figure skater and her strong-willed mother, who has her on the fast track to Harvard, she can only hope to be like Nikki, Tiffany and Gen--three elite skating prodigies who are ruthlessly competing on the US National circuit (and have attitudes to match).

But when Casey gets the chance to train with Gen and her coach, a disgraced former skating champion who also happens to be Gen's mother, she must dash her own mother's hopes in order to pursue her dream. Now, with only the support of Gen's teenage brother, a hunky Zamboni driver, Casey takes on the challenge of her life when she finds herself competing against the best to make it into the championship circuit and become a real "ice princess."

At first, her mother did not agree with her decision of being a skater.

Casey also have to work many jobs at once, keep her grades up, and has to make do with old skates.

However, she never gave up!

This movie has a really sweet ending, it shows how the coach and Casey's mother finally got along, and discussed Casey's dream of being an ice-skater, as well as school life.

American Idol

Perhaps, you have seen Scott MacIntyre in American Idol? Yep, that's him in the pic! ;D

Scott MacIntyre's daily struggle with low vision can be compared to "looking at the world through a coffee straw."
Diagnosed with the rare genetic eye disorder Congenital Leber's Amaurosis, Scott is totally blind in dim lighting and only has two degrees of tunnel vision in the center of his field.

The accomplished pianist, who has performed with the Phoenix Symphony as well as internationally, is only able to see one note at a time on a sheet of music. "Some would view my visual impairment as a tragic loss," he says. "I don't view it in that sense any longer. My love for music has more than compensated for my lack of vision."

Before he began using RFB&D's recorded books, Scott dreaded reading any text, for it was cumbersome, time consuming and frustrating.
After he was introduced to RFB&D, however, he found recorded books to be much more efficient and enjoyable.
Sharing books such as Robinson Crusoe and Huckleberry Finn with his family became a bonding experience on long car trips.
Eventually all that listening to RFB&D's audiobooks paid off in a big way - Scott graduated from college at an age when most seniors are just graduating high school.

At 19 years old, Scott graduated summa cum laude at Arizona State University and was selected by USA Today as one of the nation's top 20 collegiate seniors of 2005.
Also named a Marshall Scholar, Scott is studying music at Cambridge University and Royal College of Music in England.
When not studying, Scott enjoys everything from musical theater and ballroom dancing to computer programming and skiing. "RFB&D has removed one of the most preventative barriers to my education," says Scott. "I am now liberated to enjoy virtually any printed material imaginable."

Though i'm not an avid fan of Americn Idol, I admire Scott for his resilience.

Billy elliot

Billy Elliot, one of my all-time favorite shows!

It talks about how an 11 yr old boy,Billy Elliot, stumbles out of the boxing ring and onto the ballet floor.

He faces many trials and triumphs as he strives to conquer his family's set ways, inner conflict, and standing on his toes!

1984: In a northern England mining town, miners are on strike and the atmosphere is tense. Eleven-year old Billy Elliot, whose father and brother are participating in the strike, whose mother has died quite some time ago and whose grandmother is not completely aware of what's going on, doesn't like the brutal boxing lessons at school.

Instead, he falls for the girls' ballet lessons. When his folks find out about this unusual love of his, Billy is in trouble. Being supported by the ballet teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson, he keeps on training secretly while the work situation as well as the problems at home get worse. Finally, Mrs. Wilkinson manages to get Billy an audition for the Royal Ballet School, but now he also has to open his heart to his family.

Against the background of an increasingly bitter miners' strike that his elder brother and father are involved in, young Billy Elliot finds he prefers joining in the girls' ballet class at the local hall to the boxing he's there for. The ballet mistress soon realises he has real potential, but no-one, least of all his family, is likely to go along with a lad doing dancing.

Billy was resilient in trying to persuade his family to see that he loves ballet!

In the end, of course, he succeeded.

Moms have it tough!

Through this video, I realised that Mothers are really great! :D

I mean she has alot of stress from her children.

Just from this song, you can tell that Mothers have alot of responsiblity, & worries.

Even so, we children don't really appreciate our Mothers.

I guess, Mothers are the most resilient people on Earth. (:

Saying a "THANK YOU" to all mothers out there!

land before time

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG!
Listen to the lyrics carefully!

At the beginning of the movie, it shows that there is a drought occuring. Dinosaurs did not have enough to eat, thus, began a journey to the Great Valley, where it was filled with freen food and more cool water.

The "long necks" gave birth to little foot.

The "three horns" gave birth to Cera.
However, there was prejudice between the different dinosaur species, and they never do things together.
That night, Sharptooth attacked Cera and Little foot when they were playing together.

Little foot's mother intervened, and managed to defeat him, but suffered many injuries too.
At the same time, there was a clash of continents, which caused a great earthquake that split the lands. Herds were divided, families cut in two.
Littlefoot was separated from his grandparents & Cera was separated from her parents.
Little foot's mother died.
At first, Little foot could not get over the death of his mother. He did not eat, nor think about the Great Valley he must reach.
However, he pulled himself together when he meets an old dinosaur named Rooter.
Along the way, he met a cheerful dinosaur named Ducky, a flier who could not fly named Petrie, Cera, and Spike.

The 5 dinosaurs travelled together to the Great Valley.

Though they were sore-stumped and tired, Little foot kept urging them to go on, even though he had never seen the Great Valley himself.
Doubts began to rise as time past by.

However, Little foot displayed resilience and did not give up. " What if the Great Vallley is just over these rocks?" Little foot was optimistic.
His friends left him for Cera later on, as the path Cera took was much easier.

Little foot still did not give in, and tried to tell them that there were going the wrong way.
Little foot came back to help Cera and the other when they were in trouble.

They finally made it to the Great Valley together, and found their family.

Goofy goofs up

This cartoon basically shows how goofy was influenced to smoke and the country starts to smoke .

He smokes when he wakes up,when he is about to sleep, when he eats ,when he brush his teeth etc...

then he realise his mistakes and tries to stop smoking . However, he was stress out as he did not have any smoke.

He did not have enough resilience to stop smoking.

After awhile he just gives up all his effort not realising his what is going to happen in future.

lesson learnt

We shouldn't be like Goofy! >:[

Terry fox

Ever heard of Terry fox?

Terry Fox was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

He lost his rightleg at age 20 to cancer. "Give up?" That was not in his dictionary.

Instead, the young athlete decided to run from coast to coast in order to raise money for cancer research.

Terry began by dipping his leg in the Atlantic Ocean at St. John's, Newfoundland on April 12, 1980, aimed to dip it again in the Pacific ocean at Vancouver, British Columbia. His pace was daunting. He ran an average of 42 km a day — the distance of a typical marathon. No one had ever done anything similar to the task Fox was undertaking.

He could not finish his run, however, as the cancer spread to his lung and he was forced to abandon the course on September 1, 1980 just north-east of Thunder Bay, Ontario after 143 days, running 5,373 km (3,339 miles) .

Despite the setback, Fox wasn't ready to admit defeat, and on several occasions in the fall of 1980 there were reports that the runner might be well enough to resume his marathon.

Terry Fox died on June 28, 1981 at the age of 22, one month before his 23rd birthday. However, his Marathon of Hope captured the nation's attention. He was proclaimed a national hero, and the annual Terry Fox Run events organized all across Canada, in the United States, and in other countries around the world, have raised more than $400M for cancer research.

*sighs dreamily* My hero...

Haha :D

Have you ever thought about it?

As you might have noticed, most of the athletes in this video have their legs amputated.

Many people who had their legs amputated will think that life has no meaning to it and they just feel like ending their lives.

Have have you ever thought of this ? Well, if you have, think again.

These people in the video have practiced resilience which youths today lack of. But we can be like them too!

Add a pot of resilience and a ladder of perspiration, & you are bound to succeed in life(:

Beethoven's Biography

Ludwig van Beethoven was baptised on December 17th 1770 at Bonn.

His family originated from Brabant, in Belgium. His father was a musician at the Court of Bonn.

His mother was always described as a gentle, retiring woman, with a warm heart.

The Beethoven family consist of seven children though only three of the boys survived ,the eldest of them was Beethoven.

But a letter called Beethoven back to Bonn when he was doing his further studies : his mother was dying.

The only person in his family whom he had developed a strong and loving relationship passed away!

Moreover, besides his mother’s death, Beethoven also had to struggle with his deafness.

The young and successful composer and virtuoso had to accept that he was suffering from a chronic, incurable illness with which he will have to live. And that was going to get worse

.~ My Story~.

I have a cousin of mine whose father passed away.

Thus, being the eldest child she takes on alot of resposibility because her mother is also jobless.

Though she has interest in music she is scared that taking music as her career will not help her financially.

After working as a admin staff for very long she finally took music as her career.
Though she is still scared that it might not help her financially.

At first it was hard for her but as she peservered.
Now she is a music teacher and she is financially alright now and she is living happily with her family

Favorite basketball player

Say "HELLO!" to my all-time favorite basketball player!

ALONZO MOURNING! *whooooooo*

Although he battled his way back to the NBA, winning a championship with the Miami Heat in 2006, Mourning believed that the most important and fulfilling part of his life still lay ahead.

Basketball, it turned out, was just the vehicle that would allow him to devote his talents and energies to a greater cause.

Alonzo Mourning’s return to basketball glory, already familiar to sports fans and non-sports fans alike, has inspired millions of patients suffering from kidney disease and living with dialysis, as well as organ donors around the world

. By sharing his experiences of the physical, emotional, and spiritual roller coaster of illness and recovery, Mourning hopes to deliver a message of faith and fire, hurdles and hope, trust and triumph.

Resilience is a story about the meaningful everyday lessons that he longs to share and about the things that truly matter in life.

Video on his book " Resilience"

I really respected how he bounced back from his kidney disease! He never gave up! :D

Totally awesome.

The end of her monstrous days

Zanda ... Zanda ... Zanda ...

"It's sooooooooooo hard!"

" URGH. I give up!"

" Noooooo~ Why can't I get this Yiruma piece RIGHT for once? Life isn't fair..."

"There're so many pages, IT MAKES MY EYES DIZZY! DO SOMETHING!"

& so much more, my ears bleed...

My cousin, Zanda, kept complaining whining to me how difficult it was to play the piano with two hands at the same time. She was on the verge of giving up after learning for a few months.

I encouraged her not to give up and told her the story of the four fingered pianist.

Hee Ah Lee overcame numerous obstacles including being born with only 2 fingers on each hand and no legs under her kneecaps, which would have been sufficient reason for other people to give up any hope in life. When she first began to play piano at age 7, she didn’t dream to become a pianist, her only hope was to strengthen her hands so that she could hold a pencil. But eventually, her efforts paid off.

My cousin was touched by her story and determination. Who wouldn't be? I mean, think of all the social problems she must have gone through. Think of all the tears she must have shed in bed at night.

Though Ah Lee is disabled, she never gave up and perservered all the way to archieved her goal in life.

After listening to her story, my cousin was touched to tears. Now she is in grade 6 in her piano and aspires to be a famous pianist someday.

I am sooooo glad it's the end of her whining days. XD

The person I admire

Heyyyy!

I'm sure most of you have heard of Mother Teresa?

YUP! She is a person whom I really admire and respect.

COME COME! let me tell you more about her...

Mother Teresa was born in Skopje ;Macedonia on 26th August 1910.
At the age of twelve, she felt strongly the call of God.
At the age of eighteen she left her parental home in Skopje and joined the Sisters of Loreto, an Irish community of nuns with missions in India.
After she had a glimpse of the poverty in Calcutta when she was teaching in St. Mary's High School. She devoted herself to working among the poorest of the poor slum.
Although she had no funds, she depended on Divine Providence, and started an open-air school for slum children.

On October 7, 1950, Mother Teresa received permission from the Holy See to start her own order, "The Missionaries of Charity", whose primary task was to love and care for those persons nobody was prepared to look after

. In 1965 the Society became a International Religious Family by a decree of Pope Paul VI. Mother Teresa has received many awards for her boldness and courage.

.~ my bubble ~.

Well... I'm quite awed with her decision. I mean, a person voluntarily working among the poorest of poor slums, isn't something you see everyday.

I think most of us wouldn't want to live in a house made of mud, reeds, plastic sheeting, stitched cloth, cardboard and other discarded materials.

Mother Teresa was constantly exposed to stagnant water, open drains, floods, rubbish, and noise and air pollution.

*sniff sniff* I can't even stand cockroaches...

Of course, it wasn't easy on Mother Teresa either. Despite being in such an environment, she practiced resilience! Thus, becoming an object of respect and admiration for many.

THE 'talk'

We had a no-smoking talk in school today & were supposed to research on true life stories of the challenges faced by people who were trying their best to quit smoking.

Here is the summary of the article that I found :

Anne had tried to stop smoking many, many times. At the age of 13, she tried 1 or 2 cigarettes with her friends. It never occurred to her that smoking would harm her in any way.

After a period of time, the effects of smoking were taking a toll on her. She began to have a bad cough and cold; neither does she have white teeth anymore like her sister who doesn’t smoke.

Anne met Paul and they both got married at the age of 22. They had 2 children who pleaded them to stop smoking. However, both had ignored their children, thinking that their actions would not affect them.

Alas, their daughter began to smoke at the age of 18, and Paul’s mother had died from a heart attack due to a brain hemorrhage which was caused by smoking. She was ONLY 55.

When tragedy strikes their family, Anne and her husband decided to quit for a while and start exercising. For the first time, Anne had realized that they were not invincible, and would surely be prone to die of some horrible diseases if she did not try to quit smoking!

After putting their heart and soul into it, Paul and Anne managed to quit smoking successfully. Now, she has found an abundance of energy, a joy in living, more confidence, and after 11 months of sobriety, Anne is now more committed to this quit than ever before!

I got this article from : http://quitsmoking.about.com/cs/ourstories/a/annaquitstory.htm

Go Read It! (:

What strikes me

It must have been hard to quit smoking.

"I have tried many times over the last few years to kick this addiction once and for all, but somehow, I always managed to be lured back into its clutches after a few weeks, or even after a 6 month quit. I thought I had it beaten! I think it must have been the "just one" lie which got me the last time. I smoked for another couple of years before I found the will power to try again. Every time I failed, I felt ashamed. Other people were quitting and staying quit, but I kept falling by the wayside, and smoking more as a result. How could they get it right and not me?"

Wow. I think quitting smoking for me, is just like taking my computer away from me FOREVER! Yes, I would cry and yearn for it. Haha.

Yup, temptations are GREAT~

Anyways, I think Anne must have had alot of perseverance & I want to have that too!

P.S. reminder for self to give Jane a card to tell her to stop smoking! :D

Okay, Byebye!
